Welcome to the 2010
season of the grand old game of baseball at Hastings Community
Little League Park.
As we get set for our
2010 season our vision of a permanent Rookie diamond is starting to become
more realistic. With new sponsors and increased government and public
support we can start working as a group for park improvements. We have
secured new back stop material from Empire Bowl with the help of the PNE
and Hastings own Richard Saunders. We are getting a more committed
involvement from the Vancouver Parks Board to help us plan a makeover of
Hastings Park in preparation for the 2016 Nationals which we will be
hosting. With everyone’s help we can help build a park for future
generations to enjoy and play the game we all love.
Last year, was a very special year for Hastings Little League. I’m sure
we’ve all seen or heard about our success as an organization, but let me
recap it for everyone.
The 7-8 year old Rookie division
-
They won the 2009 BC
District 6 Championship hosted by Trout Lake Little League.
-
With some slight
changes they moved into BC Minor territory and captured the 2009
Abercromby Burnaby Championship.
The 9-10 year old Minor division
-
Playing
in our own park they captured the 2009 District 6 Championship for the 8th
time in 10 years.
-
Fighting
back and winning the 2009 Minor Provincial Championship hosted by Little
Mountain.
-
They dominated their
opponents to win the 2009 Fred Ritchie Classic.
The major all-stars have set a high standard from which all young players
can hope to achieve in the future.
The 11-12 year old Major division
-
Finishing
with a 1, 2, 3 performance at the New Westminster Hyack Tournament
-
Winning the District
6 Championship for the 6th straight year
-
In Coquitlam the BC
Provincial Championship (for the first time ever)
-
The Canadian
Championship (another first)
-
To top it off
representing Canada at the Little League World Series and receiving the
Jack Losch Trophy for the Most Sportsmanlike team at the 2009 Little
League World Series.
Baseball fans should know that this is the 3rd time in 3 years that our
all-star teams have won all three district tournaments in one year, the
only League in our District to accomplish this feat.
No league in BC has ever been so dominant for one season. Hastings
Community Little League was able to have a clean sweep of every possible
Championship in Canada.
Hastings will be
hosting the District 6 Major All-Star tournament this year which runs from
July 10th to 16th. Shortly after we will be hosting
our 22nd annual Fred Ritchie Tournament from July 23 to August
2nd. This is our 9 & 10 year old all-star tournament featuring
teams from around the province. So make sure you come out and support our
home teams. Just a note that Hastings has won this tournament the last 3
years in a row!
I want to say a
special thanks to all our volunteers, parents, coaches, and board members
who donate hundreds of man hours each year to make Hastings Little League
such a special place to play!
Little League is a
family affair that gives parents and children an opportunity to spend
time together. Whether
we are coaching the players, selling hot dogs in the concession, or raking
and lining the field, it’s fun to be part of Hastings Community Little
League. We know that your son or daughter will appreciate the benefits of
your enthusiasm and involvement in his or her Little League experience.
Have a great season. — Dave Jenkins,
