Hastings Community Little League: no title

Blastball and T-Ball

There is no evaluation for players in the Blastball and T-Ball divisions at Hastings Community Little League. Instead, players are assigned to teams by their respective Division Coordinator.  “Teammate” requests and “Sibling” requests for team placement will be considered.
Rookie, Minor and Major Divisions
Evaluations are conducted to understand a players ability so Division Coordinators can ensure they are capable of playing within their respective age division.
Equally important, players are ranked to ensure that coaches understand their skill level amongst their peers when drafting them to their team. This assists in creating a balance of talent and strength amongst all teams in each division.
The evaluation of players is the responsibility of the Draft Coordinator and ranks a player based on their ability to field, catch, throw, pitch (Minor/Major Only) and hit a ball.
All players in the Rookie, Minor and Major divisions must be evaluated. Attendence is mandatory in order to be assigned to a division and placed on a team.
A player may be assigned to a younger age division if there is a safety concern. This could include 7 year olds playing in the T-Ball division, 9 year olds playing in the Rookie division and 11 year olds playing in the Minor division. Conversely, a player may be allowed to play in an older age division if they are deemed to be capable based on their evaluation results.
Player Evaluation Schedule

All players registered to either the Rookie, Minor and Major division must attend their scheduled evaluation session.

Playing up in a Higher Age Division

Some players may be invited by league officials to try out for a higher division than they are eligible for based on age. In these cases, the player must also attend the evaluation session for the older age group and the following criteria will apply:

  • must be invited to play up;
  • must have played the previous year in the division for which he/she is eligible based on age;
  • must be one of the top players in his/her age group;
  • there must be available spots in the higher division.

Team Assignments - Rookie, Minor and Major Divisions

After the evaluation process, players will be placed in the division that best suits their abilities and are assigned to teams through a draft or selection system by the coaches of each division. The number of teams will be determined based on the total number of players in the division. The teams will be selected by the respective coaches through a draft process using the evaluation results to create parity amongst the teams. “Teammate” requests for team placement are NOT accepted in the Rookie, Minor and Major divisions. “Sibling” requests for team placement will be considered at all levels for players eligible to play within the same division.
