FRED RITCHIE INVITATIONAL
Since 1989, HCLL has hosted a tournament for 9 and 10-year-old Minor teams. In 1991, it was renamed in honour of longtime league member and friend Fred Ritchie, and has since been known as the Fred Ritchie Invitational Tournament.
WHO IS FRED RITCHIE?
Frederick Joseph Ritchie was born in Vancouver on March 19, 1928, and after a courageous battle with cancer, passed away on April 21, 1991. For more than 15 years, Fred dedicated himself to promoting and volunteering with the Hastings Community Little League baseball program. In 1972, he became manager of the Minor Division Reds team and was named Manager of the Year in 1986. Fred was deeply committed to the 9- and 10-year-old program and spent his entire coaching career working with players in this age group.

In 1983, he became Sponsorship Coordinator, raising thousands of dollars for the children of our league. He worked tirelessly to ensure teams had the funding they needed and was a constant presence at the park, always encouraging and supporting the game. Fred was named an honorary life member of Hastings Community Little League in 1989, and it is with great respect and pride that we commemorate his many contributions to our league.

Tournament Dates and Details
This year's tournament will be held during the May Long Weekend, May 15-17, 2026 and will be open to twelve 9/10 year old teams. The re-implementation of this tournament has been made possible by a generous grant from Sport Hosting Vancouver and the Vancouver Parks Board. This year's tournament will include a skills competition as well as great prizes and fun for all participants!
MVP PRIZE
At every game, each team will award a Sambat Prize to its Most Valuable Player, celebrating great effort with a Canadian-made wooden bat.

There are two steps to registering for the Fred Ritchie Invitational.

E-TRANSFER REGISTRATION FEE
The tournament registration fee is $550.00. The amount is due 3 weeks before the start of the tournament.

ONE DOZEN BASEBALLS
In addition to the $550.00 registration fee, one (1) dozen baseballs must be handed in to the tournament officials before your first game.
