ROOKIE DIVISION

For players 7 to 8 years of age

ABOUT THE ROOKIE DIVISION

The Rookie division is for 7 and 8 year old players (age as of August 31 in the year of the current or upcoming season).

The Rookie Division introduces players to a more recognizable form of baseball while maintaining a strong development-first mindset. Players begin hitting a moving ball from a pitching arm (for consistency), and learning basic game concepts within an age-appropriate and supportive environment. The division is tiered to ensure players are placed in an environment that best supports their development and safety. Rookie baseball serves as a bridge between T-Ball and full baseball in the Minor Division. Bases are set at 60 feet, and a regulation game is six innings.

Each player must provide their own glove, helmet, and a cup/jill is required for safety purposes. Team bats are provided if needed. Players are welcome to use their own bats, but these must be “USA Baseball” approved (not USSSA). T-Ball bats must not be used as they pose a safety risk when hitting moving balls.

Each player will receive a team t-shirt, a league baseball hat, and individual and team photos. “Teammate” and “sibling” requests are not accepted for the Rookie Division.

During games, parents will be required to assist with field set-up, field clean up, managing the dugout, scorekeeping, and any other duties the coach needs help with.

Player Placement & Evaluations

All players must attend an evaluation to play in the Rookie Division. Placement within the Rookie Division is based on age, skill level, safety considerations, and formal evaluations. In some cases, players may be placed above or below their age group based on skill level, playing experience, and developmental needs. The goal of evaluations is to ensure each player is placed in an environment where they can succeed, learn, and enjoy the game

Format & What to Expect

Rookie teams will practice or play three times a week. Rookie AA generally on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Rookie AAA generally on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Practice days may change to align with coach and player availability.

ROOKIE AA

Rookie AA is designed for players who are continuing their transition from T-Ball and are still building confidence with core baseball skills. The emphasis is on learning, repetition, and gradual exposure to game situations, allowing players to develop at an appropriate pace.

Games in Rookie AA use a pitching machine exclusively, and players do not pitch at this level. Modified rules are used to promote success, confidence, and consistent game flow. Players focus on hitting a moving ball, developing proper throwing and catching mechanics, learning defensive positioning, and understanding base running. Coaches are actively involved during games, providing instruction and support, and all players rotate through positions and receive equal opportunities to participate. While scores are kept, and there are standings, player development always comes first.

ROOKIE AAA

Rookie AAA is intended for players who have demonstrated readiness for increased pace, consistency, and responsibility. This tier challenges players to extend their skills while still using age-appropriate tools and rules, helping prepare them for the transition to live pitching in the Minor Division.

Rookie AAA continues to use a pitching machine, with no player pitching. Games feature fewer rule modifications than Rookie AA and are played at a faster pace. Players are expected to demonstrate improved focus, consistent hitting mechanics, stronger defensive decision-making, and a growing understanding of game situations. Expectations for effort and execution are higher, while coaches continue to support development through instruction and feedback
