BEHAVIOUR & DISCIPLINE POLICY

PURPOSE

This policy outlines the behavioural expectations for everyone involved with Hastings Community Little League, whether directly or indirectly, and explains the procedures for addressing conduct that does not align with the league’s values.

BEHAVIOURAL EXPECTATIONS

HCLL is committed to providing a welcoming, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and families. As a community, we share responsibility for creating a space where sportsmanship, fun, and positive learning experiences thrive.

Respect, fairness, and inclusion are at the core of everything we do. Every person involved with the league is expected to model good behaviour, contribute to a supportive atmosphere, and act in the best interests of the children and the sport.

The HCLL Executive Board values your feedback and is always open to ideas that can help improve the experience for all. We strive to maintain a league culture that supports equal opportunity and prohibits any form of discrimination or disrespectful conduct.

All individuals involved with HCLL—including players, parents, coaches, officials, and volunteers—must adhere to the league’s Codes of Conduct. These codes are available on the HCLL website and form a key part of our community standards.

HCLL follows the Little League Baseball's Zero Tolerance Policy, which prohibits abusive or inappropriate behaviour in any form.

  • Creating a negative environment through constant criticism, sarcasm, or ridicule

  • Engaging in reckless behaviour that compromises safety

HOW DISCIPLINARY ISSUES ARE HANDLED

Any concern regarding inappropriate behaviour can be brought to the attention HCLL Safety and Head of Discipline Officer. A written report may be requested for formal review. A three-member panel from the HCLL Board of Directors will review the case and determine appropriate action. Please refer to the Complaint and Grievance Policy for more details.

Disciplinary actions will be implemented promptly, taking into account league schedules and the nature of the incident. Possible consequences may include:

  • A verbal warning

  • A request for a written or spoken apology

  • Suspension from coaching, managing, or volunteer duties

  • Temporary or permanent exclusion from HCLL games, practices, or events

  • Revocation of membership and removal from the league

  • Additional steps deemed appropriate for the situation

Factors that may influence the outcome include:

  • The seriousness of the conduct

  • Whether the behaviour is a repeated issue

  • Willingness to take responsibility and show remorse

  • Age, experience, or role of the person involved

  • Potential for behaviour to improve in the future
